Sounds of 2017 →
Welcome home familia...
I spent a lot of time in 2017 looking. Que buscaba, no lo sabia completamente. In the process I happened to find some situations and people that continue to inspire me. While at Gem & Jam in Tucson I attended a workshop on entheogens put on by Shelby B. and I had the pleasure of unexpectedly running into her again at Head for the Hills in San Marcos a few weeks later. I decided then that she was the first person I wanted to record a conversation with for a continuing series I have tentatively named "What Should We Know". My intent with the series is to shine a light on ideas/concepts/events that most people are either not aware of or too scared to talk about by actually talking about them with individuals that have something to say in regards to the topic.
Not too long after recording my conversation with Shelby, I went on a camping trip with my friend Brandon to Big Bend National Park along the US/Mexico border. While there we ran into two Canadians that were in Texas for a conference on border relations and indigenous communities. They ended up being the second conversation I recorded for "WSWK".
In addition to having my audio recorder handy for those "interviews", there were also a few candid events I happened to record while in the moment. The two most noteworthy events that I also included in this compilation are the sounds of the 2017 national Rainbow Gathering in Oregon and a conversation with a man named Perry in Randle, WA during the solar eclipse.
Now that I think about it, it's fitting that two of these sets of sounds came from Texas, and the other two from the Pacific Northwest. The two places I call home.
If you'd like to know more about me, the underlying values of DUWOVISION or just want some stimulating audio then take a listen to the sounds of 2017 as recorded by me, José. Gracias.
